This piece was a recreation of Jenny Saville's painting 'Stare' . To add some of my own elements into the piece however, I used acrylic and A3 paper, as opposed to oil and huge canvas, and a green colour scheme as opposed to the fleshy tones seen in the original. The purpose of recreating one of Saville's pieces, was to get an idea of how she got the imagery she achieved. For example, I learnt how the dark marks and lines around the face were a result of painting over darker colours with light, as opposed to adding the dark afterwards. The techniques I learnt here on a smaller scale, such as painterly brush strokes and highlights, allowed me to move onto some of my larger pieces such as my piece, 'Molly' (shown earlier in my blog), with more of a concept of how Saville's painting style was achieved. 

I learnt a lot about using contrasting colours and how reds can nicely offset a cool theme and visa versa.
